Beckie Oldham

Can you tell us a little about you?
I'm Beckie, I'm 20 years old, and I've just finished my first year in BA (Hons) Popular Music with Music Technology at the University of Derby. I've also done a foundation year in Technology and Electronics. My hobbies are singing, playing piano and bass guitar, playing on my PS3 and going out with my friends!

How would you describe your genre of music, and what inspires you?
I listen to all kinds of music as part of my studies, my iTunes goes from Eminem to Bullet for my Valentine! But the music I make is probably in the rock genre - at the moment I like writing songs that are in the rock genre, but adding a synth to make it a little bit different.

Is there anywhere in particular we can find you/do you gig at?
At the moment I'm only doing the odd gig around Derby city centre, however if all goes to plan I may be joining a band as a singer, so in the future I will be doing more gigs. I've also recently performed my own songs at university as part of the school and colleges day, to showcase what sort of work I do at university.

Did you seek singing lessons/music lessons to get to where you are today?
I've never had singing lessons although I am currently looking into getting some, because if my ideal career of performing doesn't go to plan, I may instead teach music. I've previously had violin and piano lessons, as well as the compulsory recorder lessons at infant school! I'm also currently taking music theory lessons as I already have Grade 1, but I want to get higher grades which will help me in the future if I do go into a teaching career, as well as helping out my studies at university at the same time.

Where would you like to be in 5 Years time?
I would like to be successful! And hopefully if my music is widely listened to it will make people happy!

Who’s your favourite musical artist/band?
My favourite bands are Paramore, Pendulum and Muse, but what I listen to changes all the time.
