January - February 2008: What we were asking then

The Students' Union are still running the "Make it safe, make it 40" campaign and are still in need of your help!!
What is it?
We are leading a campaign to request the lowering of the speed limit to 40mph on the A608 road which is just outside the Broomfield Hall (BH) campus in Morley. The stretch's speed limit is currently set at the national speed limit (60mph), and is causing the BH students, staff and visitors concern especially in light of a recent fatal accident only 400 metres away from the main College drive.
We need your support in two main ways:
1. We are asking ALL students, staff, visitors and other concerned people to sign a petition and show support to the campaign, and to the BH students. In order to request that Derbyshire County Council (DCC) reduce the speed limit to 40mph and install a range of 'traffic calming' measures along the A608
2. If you are in agreement that the road should be 40mph and wish to personally object the current proposal to drop the speed limit to 50mph, then download an objection letter or postcard below and either send it directly to DCC or return it to one of our Students' Union offices.
3. Requesting a Speed Camera to be put in place outside of the Broomfield Hall campus to help enforce the current speed limits on the road and to reduce accidents to any students, parents, staff and visitors. Click here
The Students' Union hopes that you will show support for this campaign, even if it doesn't effect you directly, we all need to work together to 'make a difference and bring about change'!
With the idea of working together you can also download a copy of the petition, to print out and encourage your colleagues, parents/guardians and others who share our concerns to sign.
For any further information regarding this campaign please call the Students' Union on 01332 520 837 and ask to speak to Nick
