The current appeal began in January 2008, as Morley Primary School was again without a Lollipop Crossing Warden to assist the children and families across the busy A608. Recruitment for this position has historically been extremely difficult.
The Parent Teachers Association decided that we must TRY and do something about our situation it was no good expecting someone else to solve our problems and those faced by the community. The parish of Morley of around 400 residents is divided by the busy A608 from the main bus route, school, church and public house. There are no facilities in Morley of shops, dentists, or doctor's surgeries. Residents including secondary school children on school bus routes and the elderly are forced to cross to complete essential journeys.
Appeals have been submitted to Derbyshire County Council since 1993. A huge amount of work cumulated in the additional road signing, the red tarmac refuge hatching in the roadway and the advisory 40mph flashing signs. Traffic density has continued to increase and so have the problems facing the community of Morley who use this road. The DVLA are currently spending thousands of pounds on the TV campaign… THINK… ‘It’s 30 for a reason’ we need to lobby our own DCC to listen to their reasoning. Around £20.000 would provide a Puffin Crossing for Morley. In February 2008 Derbyshire County Council announced a £24.6 million boost for road safety schemes. A quote from BCC News 12.2.08 from Brian Lucas Cabinet Member, “This money will make a real difference to our county, many roads and pavements will be improved and will be made safer for all who use them” “Some of the money will be spent on road safety schemes to help reduce the number of people injured”
This is a campaign to highlight the need for some of this money to be spent in our community
