Course Reps

The Students' Union is a great place to get involved in all sorts of stuff. In fact the more you can get involved in the better it will be for you in the long run. As you're here to get qualifications, it's probably quite a good idea to tell you how you can get involved with issues relating to your course and how you can make a difference - not only for yourself but for all your fellow students.

What are course reps?

  • Any student is eligible to be a rep for their course

  • They talk to students on their course and make these student views known in departmental meetings to ensure the course is as good as it should be.

  • They work with other course reps in campaigning on wider academic issues.

This year there will be

34 representatives from A level courses

24 representatives for the vocational courses

And 10 representatives from part time subjects

A minimum of 68 representatives throughout the College.

How to apply

At this years Freshers Fair, all students were able to sign up to be a Course Rep. Details were taken and information was handed out detailing the requirements and expectations of a Course Rep. These students' details have now been passed on to the person responsible for their course area and a selection / election process will take place if more than one candidate has put their name forward.

But don't worry if you missed the event, you still have time to get in your applications in, visit the Students' Union office to pick up a form or download one here and return it to any SU office.

Other Info

All the Course Reps will be given training and the opportunity to make a difference to the 'student experience'.

Each representative will be expected to attend a training session and then to attend infrequent meetings with the Programme Co-ordinators / Team Leaders throughout the year to discuss issues and queries regarding their course. They will also have the opportunity to attend area SAR meetings if they wish.

Each representative will also be invited to Students' Union meetings whereby they will be given the opportunity to guide and take a hands-on control over their Union.
